SEC Preview

Posted on August 30, 2008. Filed under: College Football | Tags: , , , , , , , |

Now, let’s talk about the SEC.  Really, I have no idea where to start.  This is by far the best conference in the country and has so much talent top to bottom.  Look at the Vols of Tennessee for example.  They return 17 starters from a team that went 6-2 in the SEC last season.  [...]

Big XII Football Preview

Posted on August 29, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , , , |

The Big XII is the conference on the rise. It had four teams in January bowl games, two BCS bowl winners, and Missouri team that was a win away from the national championship game. So this season, the conference’s expectations are much higher. Missouri, Texas, Texas Tech, and defending conference champion Oklahoma are the top [...]

Olympic Afterthought

Posted on August 28, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Now that the 2008 Beijing Olympics have winded down, I have a few thoughts coming out of them.
1. Michael Phelps is ridiculous. Need I say more? He’s simply the best swimmer of all time.
2. Men’s basketball has been restored to the United States. Almost all the credit should go to Jerry Colangelo, who assembled this [...]

Big East Preview

Posted on August 28, 2008. Filed under: College Football, Uncategorized |

Today, the Sports Nation will be taking a look at the Big East conference.
The Big East is pretty much wide open this season. Most are picking the Mountaineers of West Virginia to emerge as the dominant force this year, but with a new coach and the loss of three big offensive weapons, teams like Cincinnati [...]

Big Ten Football Preview

Posted on August 28, 2008. Filed under: College Football | Tags: , , , , , |

We at the Sports Nation promised rundowns of the six BCS conferences, and I will be the first to admit that 1/2 of the Sports Nation has a personal bias for the ACC. So this preview should be a little shorter. Sorry Big Ten Country but this conference is much more clear-cut anyway.
Minnesota will be [...]

As kickoff for the 2008 college football season approaches, the Sports Nation will be taking a look at each of the BCS conferences, and maybe a bonus sneak peek of the WAC, just for the sake of being different.
Today’s preview is of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which has by many has been considered the worst [...]

Brady out till week 5?

Posted on August 22, 2008. Filed under: NFL | Tags: , , |

I  was in a fantasy football draft today and a guy said he heard Tom Brady would be out until week 5.  Two other guys responded by saying they had also heard that.  The Pats are good at covering things up, but you think ESPN would  have found out if three scrubs in a fantasy [...]

MLB Showdown

Posted on August 20, 2008. Filed under: Misc. | Tags: |

At The Sports Nation, we have just re-discovered the  greatest game of all time.  Somehow in casual conversation,  MLB Showdown came up.  Later that day I went into a cabinet and found a white box with all my cards in it.  That was the highlight of my week.
From trading for shiny cards to playing small [...]

Phelps?

Posted on August 18, 2008. Filed under: Olympics | Tags: , , |

I saw an interview with Michael Phelps today and he said he was bullied a lot as a kid. He was tormented by kids and school and fellow swimmers. The reason I bring this up is because he said he used this bullying in a positive way, making him stronger. He took [...]
